ACTIVITIES

Deerhounds are superb companions, at home, at work (where circumstances permit), when jogging or simply on a daily walk.

Because hunting with dogs is no longer permitted in many countries and jurisdictions, owners can enrich (if so inclined) their Deerhound experience with other activities.

Deerhounds are well suited to:

  • Conformation showing - where dogs are judged against the standard and each other for the best representative of the breed on the day, in the judge’s opinion,
  • Coursing - Deerhounds and their owners enthusiastically enjoy lure coursing and racing events.

While expectations need to be moderated, Deerhounds and their owners can also enjoy:

  • Obedience competitions,
  • Agility trials,
  • Scent or tracking trials,
  • Rally competitions.

Deerhounds perform well as

  • Therapy dogs
